Oscar Party Tips: How to Throw a Great Event

The Academy Awards are this Sunday, at 5:30pm PST on ABC, and if you are planning on hosting a party, here are a few last minute tips for making your event a memorable one.

Games: trivia games are always a welcomed addition to any Oscars party. This year print out baby pictures of the best actor and actress nominees and have your guest match them. Give the winner a small prize.

Popcorn bar: no snack may be more associated with the movies than popcorn. For your party make a popcorn bar with a set of various topping like butter, cheese, jalapenos, and honey. Get creative with the toppings—your guest will love it.

Create your own ballot: the average Oscar voter is a 60-year-old white male which might not match the sensibilities of the general public. Make your own ballot, compile the results, and the winners when each category is announced.

Tips and Trick For Dealing With Loud Apartment Noise

Living in an apartment can be noisy—particularly with adjoined walls, neighboring complexes and a host of other things. If you are dealing with unwanted noise, here are a couple tips for keeping your house nice and quiet.

Heavy drapes:  something as simple as heavy drapes can help reduce outside noise from coming into your apartment. If a window is bringing in all that unwanted noise, thinking about changing or adding thick drapes.

Cork: if the sound is coming from a wall, decorate that area with sheets of cork, the material is perfect for sound proofing a room.

Music: the brain is adept and drowning out certain sounds, so play light music and let your brain focus on that instead of whatever loud noises may be outside.

Reasons Why a Landlord Can Keep Your Deposit

Getting your deposit back isn’t difficult, but there are a few things you need to do. Here are a few tips for getting your security deposit back once you do move out.

Breaking a lease: if you break your lease, or do not provide 30 days notice before moving out when on a month to month, a landlord can keep your deposit to cover the lost rent.

Apartment damage: renters are covered for normal wear and tear, but any real damage will cause your deposit to be deducted: things like large holes in the walls, multiple small holes, huge stains on wall or carpets, water damage or other issues.

Rent payments: if there is a dispute with the rent payment when moving out, the landlord can and will keep the deposit to pay any money that is owed.
